What is Kinky Salon?Kinky Salon is a global movement that promotes sexual liberation and playful, creative expression. We have hosted 300+ immersive experiences in 16 cities (and counting) since 2003, with costumes, art, dancing, and performance, as well as areas where people can be playfully sexual. In addition to our big events, we train our members how to host their own sexy parties and give them the tools and the community to make it happen, and this website gives members access to dating, video chat, and social networking.
We are queer/kink/poly-centered, body positive, anti-racist, accessible, and inclusive. Creativity is the focus of our community, and sex is just one way to express yourself at Kinky Salon. We see the liberation of sexuality as a means of personal transformation, and personal transformation as a means of cultural transformation. Everyone who attends a Kinky Salon must arrive and leave with someone. We call this the PAL SYSTEM. It works really well to keep our community safe and free of lurkers, while still welcoming unattached single people to play.
Every time you enter a Kinky Salon we will remind you of our DOs AND DON'Ts. These are the basic principles of how we play.
The formula remains the same for large-scale, virtual, or house parties: Starting with the first invitation that goes out to announce the theme we begin the narrative and a story starts to unfold. We offer art grants and profit shares to encourage creative participation. The script for the night develops as participants sign up and bring their piece: a game, performance, sculpture, character, or experience created for the theme, which we weave together into a narrative that spans across multiple rooms in a non-linear experiential format.
On the night everyone who attends is in costume. Guests and performers interact without knowing who is part of our plan and who is just showing up and doing something creative. Some nights even we don’t know. There are erotic areas where performances and interactions are overtly sexual, including explicit sexual play between guests. The storyline reaches its peak with the cabaret, to facilitate a moment of acknowledgment: yes this is crazy, yes you are amazing, yes we love you.
The goal is to transport people out of their everyday reality. Our hope is that everyone who attends a Kinky Salon experiences a shift in their consciousness. Maybe through their negotiations in the playspace they learn something new about themselves or their partner. Maybe they release a long held perspective about gender or sexuality. Or perhaps they just let their hair down enough to really feel a sense of freedom and liberation. We create a space that feels safe enough, fun enough, and different enough from everyday life, that people try things outside their comfort zone.
Our events are run by teams of volunteers. Participating on a Kinky Salon team or being part of a KAMP (Kinky At My Place) has been compared to being on "Kinky Prom Committee."
